Culture shock
Being in another country, we will definitely experience a culture shock when we arrive there. I also experienced culture shock when I arrived in Thailand.
- Ceremonies every day. Unlike in Indonesia where they only hold ceremonies on Mondays, in Thailand they hold ceremonies every day. Singing national songs; greet the older ones from kindergarten, grade 1 to grade 6 then greet the teacher; then Pray and end with a little speech from the teacher.
- Teachers at school wear sandals. This may not be allowed in all schools, but at Wat Klong Chanuan school it is allowed, perhaps because this school is remote.
- Students are obliged to take off their shoes when they finish the ceremony, even if they are outdoors, and their socks even have holes.
- Students and teachers are provided with school lunches by the government. But the canteen also sells some cheap snacks for students.
- After finished taking a break, there are 30 minutes to brush your teeth. This is different from Indonesia, which goes straight back to class after taking a break.
- Elementary school has full day from 7.30 to 16.30 Monday to Friday.
- Kindergarten here is also full time from 7.30 to 4 pm, in the afternoon after eating there is a nap.
- Most people in Thailand use iPhone, this is actually normal but a little surprising because the majority of people in Indonesia use Android.
- The streets are quiet and public transportation is rare, most Thai people use their motorbikes and private cars. However, many motorbike riders don't wear helmets, this is still the same as in Indonesia where people don't really care about safety.
- Food in Thailand is predominantly sour. For some people who are not used to sour tastes, stomach ache may occur in the first week because the stomach is not used to acidic foods.
- LGBT has been accepted in this country. I, who already knew about this, was not that surprised, but this is very taboo for people in Indonesia.
- Get pre-service in the form of water and ice cubes at every restaurant. This is very different from in Indonesia where you have to wait for orders without any pre-service first.
